One More Cup

Today I was privileged to adventure out to three more coffee shops around Kansas City, specifically the Waldo area and the Brookside area.

First, I went to a place called One More Cup, it was a cute little hole-in-the-wall shop. While the interior of the shop was very artistic and original, and the coffee not bad, there were a lot of downsides to the experience.

It was on a busy road, so the parking was in the back and kind of hard to get to. The baristas were very nice and polite, however, not very helpful. They explained their special drinks to me, but then when I proceeded to order one of the drinks that they recommended to me, they were OUT OF IT! A huge and very important part of customer service in my opinion is being aware of the products that are and are not in stock. And also, not only being educated about the product and service, but displaying a level of passion for it, enough to take the initiative to educate the customer.

Another downside was that they only served their beverages in a 16 and 20 oz. cup, and because of the rich, quality ingredients they used, they were able to charge four and a half dollars for a "small" beverage.
It was a cute little coffee shop, but that's about it, I think I would only give it a 5 or 6 out of 10.

  1. Hello!

Thank you for the review of our shop, even though you were not entirely pleased with your visit. Of course we always hope that folks have positive experiences, but we are interested in the negative too so that we know what we need to work on.

I am glad that you enjoyed the look of our coffee house, and found the baristas to be nice! I am saddened though, that they were not able to provide you with the drink or exact service experience that you wanted. Most of our specialty drinks are dependent on the flavored Shatto milks, which is a good thing, but can also have it's downsides. Sometimes the cows are in low production of milk, and Shatto cuts out making the flavors. That was not happening at the time of your visit, but I see that it was a Wednesday which is our delivery day. Either way, they should have expressed to you that whatever milk it was, was out of stock. Also, we carry flavored syrups that can replicate most of the drinks when we are out of the flavored milk. The only one we cannot re-create is root beer milk! We will be reiterating to our employees the importance of knowing what we do and do not have, and of offering alternatives. Usually we find our staff to be quite passionate about the products we use, and more than willing to offer help, suggestions, etc. I don't have a good excuse for your experience other than perhaps whomever you dealt with was having an off day.

Unfortunately there just isn't much we can do to change the parking situation. We just try to alert our customers to parking in the back.

As for sizes, our drinks come in 12, 16, and 20 oz. Iced drinks are only available in 16 or 20. That is fairly standard for coffee shops, and there just honestly isn't much demand for 12 oz. iced drinks. We apologize again if this was not made clear to you.

We think you will find that our prices are pretty standard as well, and we use very high quality ingredients that most other coffee shops are not using. All of our coffee and espresso is organic and fairly traded, and as said before, we use local Shatto milk.

We hope that you will try us again sometime, but also understand how crucial first impressions are, and that you may not want to do that. We are sorry for your experience, but thankful for letting us know how to improve ourselves! Take care.

    Best...Stacy Neff, co-owner
